The Milwaukee-area Christmas Bird Count will occur on December 14th and is the club event for December. Every year, birders around the country participate in the Christmas Bird Count (CBC). These events have been happening for over 120 years all over the country! New and experienced birders work together to visit a variety of parks, backyards, and natural areas to count up all the species and individual birds we can find.
Location
We are planning to do our part in Hopkins Hollow: Meet at the trail head at 4410 N Hopkins Street. Lincoln Creek runs through this area making it ideal for songbirds, hawks, herons, owls and more. Even a Peregrine Falcon has been spotted flying over.
Join us and let's see what we can add to the Hopkins Hollow bird list and the Milwaukee CBC!
What to Expect
No previous birding experience required! You can expect easy, but uneven trails.
Be sure to dress warmly since we’ll be outside for an extended time! We also suggest preparing for ice on pavement and dirt surfaces, so consider wearing ice trekkers or shoes with good traction.
We love new birders! As always, birders of all skill levels are welcome and we have child- and adult-sized binoculars available for those who’d like to borrow a pair.
